IN THE FRAMEWORK OF A STUDY AIMING AT THE DEFINITION OF REMOTE SENSING POTENTIALITIES FOR THE FORECASTING OF RIVER FLOOD CHARACTERISTICS, THE RESEARCH HAS DEFINED PROCEDURES FOR THE EVALUATION AND MONITORING OF THE STATE OF VEGETATION OVER OVER THE UPPER=NIGER CATCHMENT IN GUINEA. THE STATE OF THE NATURAL VEGETATION AS WELL AS ITS SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL DYNAMIC IS IN FACT A STRONG INDICATOR OF THE RAINFALLS QUALITY, OF THEIR IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND SO OF THEIR BEHAVIOUR WHICH IS AN ESSENTIAL ELEMENT FOR FLOOD FORECASTING.
