EUROCODES: EU Policy Issues, Implementation and Further Development
The EN Eurocodes are a series of 10 European Standards, EN 1990 ¿ EN 1999, providing a common approach for the design of buildings and other civil engineering works and construction products. Since March 2010 they are the only Standards for the design of structures in the Member States of the European Union and the European Free Trade Association. The paper presents how the Eurocodes meet the European Union policies concerning the free movement of construction products and engineering services, the public procurement of such products and services, the safety of people in the built environment, the competitiveness of the European construction industry and the sustainable development. The paper also presents the actions of the European Commission in support to the implementation, further harmonisation and further development of the Eurocodes.
