Fast Neutron Environmental Spectrometry Using Disk Activation
This paper describes a simple and robust detector for environmental fast neutron spectrometry. The technique is based on neutron activation of a series of metal disks followed by low-background gamma-ray spectrometry of the activated disks and subsequent neutron spectrum unfolding. The technique is similar to foil activation but here aimed for lower neutron fluence rates. The detector has been tested in a reference neutron field and the measured spectrum showed good agreement with a model spectrum.
