Chapter 6 - Applications to Marine Resources and Biodiversity
The dynamical approach involved in data assimilation analysis of coastal and marine mesoscale processes for fisheries applications represents a significant im- provement in the understanding of the real functioning of pelagic ecosystems, close to the ¿ecosystem-based approach¿ proposed by the international organizations. In this chapter we review the current knowledge and potential use of ocean-colour infor- mation and the derived eco-regions concept for plankton (phyto- and zooplankton) and fisheries research.
