Research on Sustainable Fast Neutron Reactors
A global overview of the JRC programme in the field of fast reactor studies for the Generation IV is presented. It concerns the three fast neutron reactor systems cooled with sodium, lead or gas, and the molten salt reactor system. The results shown demonstrate that JRC is heavily involved in experimental investigations in the field of advanced fuel cycle processes and fuel behaviour, and in the broad area of structural materials aimed at sustaining extreme irradiation conditions. The programmes are integrated, at European dimension, within the overall perspective of the "Sustainable Nuclear Energy Technology Platform", and, at international level, within the Generation IV International Forum activity.
