Introducing students to structural dynamics and earthquake engineering
The European Laboratory for Structural Assessment (ELSA) is one of the
world¿s main laboratories for seismic studies. Besides its research activities,
it also aims to bring applied science closer to the public. This article
describes teaching activities based on a demonstration shaking table which is
used to introduce the structural dynamics of buildings. The phenomenon of
soil liquefaction is also illustrated and explained.
