The bi-annual report about trends of analytical chemistry reflects international developments in the period of 2008-2009. This strong increase of mass spectrometric methods has continued and a stronger use of new nanomaterials and reagents has been recognized. Regarding the application sectors, food analysis and clinical diagnostics are gaining further importance. New technologies in analytical chemistry and the emphasis on data reliability are driven by non-university groups and international teams.
