A summary report identifying and locating the sources of PCBs and Dioxin in the whole catchment was presented to the Elbe Coordination Group. The JRC results will be used within the sediment management initiative aiming at the removal of hot spots, in particular historic contamination that are conserved in the river banks, but still releasing POPs into the catchment. The paper describes the spatial distribution of PCDD/Fs and PCBs in the sediments and settling material anong a stretch from CZ passing GER and samples taken in the North Sea. An attempt to identify the (historic) sources via statistical eveluation of the PCDD/F fingerprints is made.
