Sustaining the Millennium Development Goals -Volume II
The JRC organized the 33rd International Symposium on Remote Sensing of Environment (ISRSE-33) http://isrse-33.jrc.ec.europa.eu, held on 4-8 May 2009 in Stresa, Italy.
ISRSE-33 specifically addressed the UN Millennium Development Goals and was structured along the societal benefit areas of the GEO (Group on Earth Observations) initiative. The Symposium raised a lot of interest amongst the European Earth Observation Community and it helped sketching a view on the progress Europe is making in its contribution in the international frame. A key outcome was the advance in research that has been recently undertaken on the topic of Societal Benefits of EO.
The programme of the ISRSE-33 was testimony to the vitality and commitment of the international Earth observation community. It comprised 62 technical oral sessions presentations across 13 themes, and 15 poster sessions, as well as 6 pre-symposium workshops and a broad variety of key technological exhibits and side events.
The Symposium received an unprecedent participation; the event was very well attended with over 850 delegates from 66 countries, making it the most successful ISRSE to date, a - vintage edition - since 1962.
