Impedance Spectroscopy of Zirconium Alloys
Corrosion of different types or zirconium alloys was investigated in-situ under high pressure high temperature conditions using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Long-term experiments were performed under VVER simulating conditions at 290o and 340o. Experimental impedance spectra were typical by presence of two time constant. High frequency one was identified as being related to electric transfer properties of the oxide layer formed in high temperature electrolyte. The low frequency time constant was connected with kinetic and mass transfer phenomena. Impedance spectra were processed using different models and the parameters of impedance models were compared with data obtained by independent analysis. Optimal model was selected and parameters characterizing time evolution of oxide parameters and kinetic and mass transfer parameters of zirconium alloys corrosion were obtained.
