MIMO radar and Ground-Based SAR imaging systems: equivalent approaches for remote sensing
The interest in MIMO radars has been growing lately because they keep the performance close to a conventional antenna array, making possible at the same time to take advantage of several hardware benefits. In this paper the upgrade of an existing GB-SAR system used for landslide prevention to a low-cost MIMO system is described together with the benefits that this new configuration can provide to low-cost/high-performance remote sensing. We also present the results gathered with the new system which are among the first data ever shown about the MIMO technique. In addition, a couple of configurations of MIMO systems are described with particular attention to the antenna positioning, which has a key role in the overall performance of the system.
