Abstract: THE SELECTION OF CONTAINMENT MATERIALS FOR THE DECOMPOSITION OF SULPHURIC ACID, BY DIRECT HEATING WITH AIR (CRISTINA PROCESS) WAS MADE BY USING INFORMATION FROM THE LITERATURE OR BY EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION. AS FOR THE HIGH TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS, LITERATURE DATA WERE LACKING, LONG TERM CORROSION TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT TO OBTAIN THE NECESSARY INFORMATION. THE RESULTS OF THIS EXERCISE ARE CRITICALLY REVIEWED WITH THE AIM OF FACILITATING THE CHOICE OF MATERIALS FOR A PILOT PLANT.
