Conference Proceedings: VALgEO 2011, 3rd International Workshop on Validation of geo-information products for crisis management

This report is a collection of contributions presented in the 3rd International Workshop for Validation of Geo-information Products for Crisis Management- VALgEO 2011- organized by the JRC on October 18-19, 2011. The annual VALgEO workshop sets out to act as an integrative agent between the needs of practitioners in situation centers and in the field guiding the Research and Development community, with a special focus on the quality of information. The conference proceedings reflect the work presented and discussed during the workshop. The chapters are organized following the four thematic sessions: • The role of validation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) for crisis management • Validation of Remote Sensing derived emergency support products • Usability of Web based disaster management platforms and readability of crisis information • Towards routine validation and quality control of crisis maps
