Using Optical Properties of Marine Waters as the Baseline for an Ecosystem Approach to Maritime Spatial Planning
The EU Integrated Maritime Policy draws on Maritime Spatial Planning to reconcile protection and exploitation of natural resources. The ecosystem approach invoked by these policies requires that eco-regions and region-specific processes be identified first. Optical remote sensing is a key component of this identification for the marine environment.
