Journal of Coastal Conservation Vol. 15, No. 2, Special Issue: Maritime Spatial Planning
The JCC Special Issue on "maritime Spatial Planning" - a series of 4 workshops set up in 2009 by the EC (DG MARE), to discuss the key principles for Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) set out in the Communication “Roadmap for Maritime Spatial Planning: Achieving Common Principles in the EU” (adopted by the EC on 25/11/2008) - aims to: (a) provide a “landmark” set of papers covering past and present MSP requirements, experiences and recommendations; (b) review development and current status of MSP in the EU and non-EU Countries where progress has been made in this field; (c) present a few novel MSP issues, which are emerging as critical items in the international MSP debate. The topics of the papers that compose the special issue are the following: (1) introduction to MSP in the context of the EU Integrated Maritime Policy, (2) objective-based MSP, (3) place-based management for MSP, (4) lessons learned on zoning for MSP, (5) cross-border issues of MSP, (6) coherence between MSP and terrestrial planning, (7) MSP monitoring and evaluation, (8) governance for adaptive MSP.
