This chapter deals with the internal security of the European Union’s gas and electricity grids, laying particular emphasis on future challenges to network stability arising from the liberalisation of the internal market for natural gas, the integration of renewable energy sources in the electricity network and the cyber-security challenges to interconnected energy infrastructures.
