Characterization of high performance austenitic and ODS alloys for SCWR conditions
High temperature oxidation resistance is of critical importance for the in-reactor components of the European supercritical water reactor (SCWR) concept. To consider candidate materials for this purpose, selected austenitic steels, iron based ODS alloys and one Ni alloy have been tested by exposure to supercritical water at 650°C/25 MPa up to 2000 h. Results of observed mass change, oxide thickness and composition after exposure are shown and discussed regarding implications for long term oxidation performance.
