Spatial Data Infrastructures
This article reviews the key developments in spatial data infrastructures (SDIs) over the last 10 years. The article raises three main issues: 1) SDIs are more complex than we first thought, and are more about building social networks than technologies and standards; 2) standards are helpful but when dealing with complex and multi-disciplinary infrastructures they are not enough, 3) the future is about integrating authoritative public sector data with information coming from citizens to have more participative environments in which to share knowledge.
