Mapping and monitoring of refugees and internally displaced people using EO data
This book chapter addresses the special situation of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDP’s) living in camps sometimes of the size of a large city. After defining the differences of refugees and IDP’s, the chapter provides examples illustrating the variety of camp situations. The next section offers an overview of the methods for mapping and monitoring of refugee/IDP camps with EO data. Finally it proposes and discusses a robust method for the estimation of the population in refugee and IDP camps.
