THERMODYNAMICS OF FISSION PRODUCTS IN SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL
The behaviour of spent nuclear fuel (SNF) as well as the fast release of safety relevant radionuclides are controlled by various phases formed under the conditions during the use of the fuel in a nuclear power plant. Important parameters are (i) the temperature, (ii) the composition of the fuel and (iii) the oxygen potential of oxide-fuel. In an ideal case, the thermodynamics should be able to describe the behaviour of SNF.
