Evidence-based policy at the end of the Cartesian Dream: The case of mathematical modelling
After centuries of continuous scientific progress, are we at the end of the "Cartesian Dream" ? The text analyses current scientific practice, current scientific knowledge quality, and the normative issues particularly present when science and policy interact. Clearly, more stringent standards for evidence quality and policy-relevant science are more and more called upon. A new approach called "sensitivity auditing" is presented: a conceptual approach "organized skepticism",and a specific set of criteria to be used when scientific information is provided by mathematical modeling to policy makers.
