Analysis of Variance
The analysis of variance (ANOVA) aims at partitioning the observed variance in a particular variable into components attributable to different sources of variation. In its simplest form, ANOVA provides a statistical test of whether or not the means of several groups are all equal and therefore generalizes t test to three or more groups. Depending upon the type of analysis, it may be important to determine (a) which factors have a significant effect on the response and (b) how much of the variability in the response variable is attributable to each factor.
