Education Index

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Education Index is published in the context of the Human Development Report (HDR), and it is one of the three components of the Human Development Index (HDI). The new Education Index (since the 2010 HDR) is calculated as the simple geometric average of two indicators: mean years of schooling and the expected years of schooling (UNDP, 2010, 2011). Past versions of the Education Index differed from the current one in all three key issues: indicators, weights, and functional form (UNDP, 2009).
