Novel methodologies for analysing critical infrastructure resilience
In the field of Critical Infrastructures (CI), both policy and research focus has shifted from pro-tection to resilience. The IMPROVER project has developed a CI resilience management framework (ICI-REF), applicable to all types of CI and resilience domains (technological, organisational and societal) allow-ing operators to understand and improve their resilience. To provide valid resilience analyses, IMPROVER has also developed methodologies to be used within the framework. As part of the pilot implementation, a case study has been performed focusing on the potable water network of Barreiro, Portugal, and has given valuable information for optimising the ICI-REF, resilience analysis methodologies and indicators. Conclu-sions are that unambiguously described indicators are crucial for monitoring resilience activities, to ensure objective, consistent, repeatable and representative results from the assessed processes. The methodologies are now being improved by designing a system of precisely described resilience indicators for operators to as-sess their technological and organisational resilience.
