Nudges, policy instruments that seek to change behaviour without banning or incentivizing alternative ways of action, are sometimes seen as manipulative. Implementing nudges in a transparent way can address such reservations, but is rarely considered. Transparent nudges can be as effective as their opaque counterparts and might even be viewed more favourably. Nudging transparently is a promising policy option.
