A review of standards to support good ecological status under the Water Framework Directive, Marine Strategy Framework Directive and Regional Sea Conventions
This report highlights the common trends and disagreements found between the information reported by Member States to Water Framework Directive (WFD) and Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD) reportings on the standards for general physico chemical elements, including nutrients, and the methodological standards agreed and used for the assessment of Eutrophication criteria elements at regional sea level by the Regional Sea Conventions (RSC).
A major exchange of information between the experts participating in the RSC discussions and managers responsible of both Directives is recommended to establish common monitoring programmes, methodologies and threshold values to achieve in the same way the good status of coastal waters.
