The relative productivity of organic agriculture must be considered in the full food-system context. A comment on Connor (2022)
The paper is a brief Comment on the article of D.J. Connor, 2022 (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.agsy.2022.103404). Connor compares how much human-metabolizable energy (HME) could be produced in Swedish organic and conventional agriculture, if the present-day crop mix and crop
yields of either system would be applied to Sweden's entire cropland. We argue that changes in production and consumption need to be explored together, when comparing the potentials for ecologically and socially sustainable food provision.
