Ukraine’s trade in non-food raw materials
Focus on EU-Ukraine trade relations
This country fiche provides a data-based overview of Ukraine’s trade in non-food raw materials, with an emphasis on the country’s trade relations with the EU in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
In 2020, non-food raw materials (excluding downstream) accounted for 1/3 of the Ukraine’s exports of goods. Raw materials exports were dominated by iron and steel product aggregates, mostly iron ore and non-alloy iron & steel.
The EU was the top export destination for all broad categories of non-food raw materials: Abiotic, Biotic and Energy.
Three quarters of non-food, non-energy imports from Ukraine consisted of various iron and steel products: iron and non-alloy steel (mainly crude steel and flat-rolled products); iron ore; stainless steel; pig, sponge and direct reduced iron and other alloy steel.
For the EU, Ukraine represented a relevant sourcing country for several non-food materials/product aggregates: manganese, silicon, wood, as well as for various aggregates of the iron and steel value chain.
