Green and digital inventions in the EU: geography, knowledge sources and the role of foreign direct investments (FDIs)
This policy brief provides evidence on the development of green and digital technological trajectories in the EU, at both national and regional levels. In particular, it explores how the distributions of the two technologies vary over time, as well as across countries and regions. It also provides evidence on the location of the knowledge sources relevant for the development of these technologies, which is captured using the patent citations of EU green and digital patent applications. Finally, it also investigates the role of foreign direct investments (FDIs) in developing the local knowledge base of green and digital inventions in the EU.
