MERIS normalized water leaving radiances have been assessed at the Acqua Alta Ocaenographic Tower in the northern Adriatic Sea using in situ data derived from radiometric measurements from autonmous above-water systems. Results indicate a systematic overestimate of the satellite derived normalized water leaving radiance which suggests an underestimate of the atmosheric effects due to an erroneus determination of the type or quantity of aerosol.
