Nanopharmaceuticals Regulatory Aspects and Safety Issues
Applications of nanotechnology in the pharmaceutical industry will have to conform to stringent criteria regarding public health, safety and environmental protection. While the existing European regulatory framework appears sufficient to deal with nanotechnology at its present state of development, review of the existing regulations may be necessary to ensure they adequately protect human health and the environment. Assessment of the health and environmental risks of nanoparticles should focus particular attention on the influence of particle size and surface chemistry on potential adverse effects.
