Application of Performance Assessment Methodologies for Clay Repository: Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analysis
PAMINA WP4.3 Benchmark 1 French Clay Repository
The report describes a joint JRC-ANDRA performance assessment analysis a clay repository for disposal of radiaoctive waste. The objective is to apply advanced methods for uncertainty and sensitivity analysis to a real case. The data for the analysis comes from the extensive French research programme. The input data are expressed as probabilisitic density functions that have been derived from in-situe field measurements, laboratory data, experte judgements or literature data. The radionuclide migration is modelled by two-dimensional model by ANDRA and by one-dimensional model by JRC in conjunction with MOnte Carlo techniques. The emphasis of the study is on the uncertainty analysis and the sensitivity analysis. The molar flow of three radionuclides (I129, Se79 and Nb94) in different parts of the system is used as the key indicator. The main result is that the computed density functions for molar flux by JRC and ANDRA are quite similar and that the statisitcal rank indicators are quite similair. The moloar flow that comes out of the clay layer is well below values that could occur during for flow of natural radionuclides. This study was a first Benchmark and will be followed by a second Benchmark where a three-dimensional geometrical model will be applied and where more advanced statisitcal techniques will be employed.
