Social Network Sites (SNS) have gained unprecedented popularity in recent years. Some of these networks comprise millions of members while others, smaller and more focused, aim to link professional communities. In this paper, we propose that SNS could be used as complementary methods in the study of possible futures or foresight. We believe that their dynamics, the broad and versatile thematic topics and the fact that most users are youngsters made these new modalities of large-scale interaction full of potential in this context. We discuss the relevance of SNS for four dimensions of foresight, namely providing evidence, building expertise, encouraging creativity and fostering interaction between individuals . Given the novelty of the SNS phenomenon and its unexplored potential in many fields, the authors aim to trigger thinking and discussion, rather than to offer a modus operandi on the use of SNS for foresight activities.
