Large sized dried spikes prepared by IRMM are primary isotopic reference materials applied in the measurement of the uranium and plutonium content of dissolved fuel from reprocessing plants using IDMS? playing a fundamental part in the fissile material control.
IRMM is constantly putting efforts and research for further development in response to requests from plant operators and safequard authorities for the requirements of high quality spikes for the next generation fuel cycle.
A proposal was presented for a new type of spike relying on a U spike alone with measurements of Pu being carried out on the diluted sample in order to economize increasingly scarce primary Pu material and avoid or reduce transport nuisances.
