The present chapter reviews and discusses water quality aspects in the Mediterranean region taking into account constraints on quantity. The environmental drivers (climate change, urbanization, tourism, and agriculture) and pressures that impact water quality are analyzed, for example, seawater intrusion, eutrophication, and toxic pollutants. Finally, the impact of the European legislation aiming at the improvement of water quality and the degree of implementation in the Mediterranean region is presented.
