Addiction Severity Index
The Addiction Severity Index (ASI) is a semi-structured (∼1 h) face-to-face interview that aims to determine the client’s level of stability and to offer a better understanding of life events that contribute to alcohol and drug dependency. Rather than focusing on the client’s substance abuse, the ASI highlights seven potential problem areas: (a) medical status, (b) employment and support, (c) drug use, (d) alcohol use, (e) legal status, (f) family/social status, and (g) psychiatric status (total of ∼200 questions).
