Blast Load Assessment and Damage Evaluation (BLADE) V. 2.0

The Blast Load Assessment and Damage Evaluation (BLADE) is a tool to preliminarily estimate the protection level of given structures/components against given blast loadings. Structural elements include various types of slabs, beams and columns, whereas building envelope elements focus mainly on different walls, windows and side panels. The included structures and components cover a wide variety of materials: standard and special concrete types, masonry, steel and glass. The tool also addresses blast effects on human bodies evaluating probabilities of ear drum rupture, lung damage, skull-base fracture and injury due to whole body impact. The PI-curves are then used to evaluate the respective structure/component damage level against the blast pressure and impulse combination. The current report conducts a literature review to explore state-of-the-art Pressure–Impulse (PI) curves of structures/components and eventually include these in the tool. It explains the principles guiding the implementation of the PI-curves and demonstrates the functionalities of the tool. Improvements, compared to the previous version, concern an updated user-friendly graphical user interface, a wider range of available PI-curves, the possibility to compare several blast loading combinations simultaneously and the availability of directly exporting results to a pdf file.
